Parades Against Parades
Parades Against Parades is the naïve but loveable bastard child of Saskatoon's punk rock and indy scenes. After a shaky birth in a church hall with borrowed equipment, the four teenagers exploded into their own, playing furiously and as often as possible. Their energetic, hold-nothing-back approach quickly gained the band a respectable following around town, and they have rarely failed to insight riotous dance parties among spectators.
Parades Against Parades follow in the creative footsteps of Sonic Youth and Eric's Trip and look to acts like Broken Social Scene and Q and not U for inspiration. With alternately sweet and crashing guitars, lilting, dreamy vocals, and a rhythm section that has been described as combining "the very best of the Bee Gee's hi hat madness with the punk rock fury of Minor Threat", Parades is sometimes grouped in with the current "dance punk" movement, although they probably don't have fashionable enough haircuts to ever really fit in.
During the first year and a half of their existence, Parades Against Parades have had the good fortune to play with such bands as The Wolfnote, The Floor, Despistado, The Mark Inside, Magneta Lane, The Doers, The All Purpose Voltage Heroes, and Clann Zu. Parades are currently planning their first Canadian tour for the summer of 2005, on which they hope to find allies, co-conspirators, and some friends who will appreciate their wholehearted attempt at weaving together noise and melody.
